Our Inspiration
In the year 1953, Shri. Sheshappa Hande and Smt. Kalyani Bai embarked on a remarkable journey. At the tender ages of 19 and 16, they left behind their hometown of Saligrama, a charming little place near Udupi in Karnataka, and set forth for Armoor, then a part of the Hyderabad state (now Telangana). With unyielding determination, they laid the foundation of Ambika Bhavan, a modest yet promising vegetarian restaurant. The aroma of freshly prepared South Indian dishes wafted through its doors, and it wasn't long before the local community embraced this new culinary haven. Through hard work and dedication Hande family won Armoor’s heart.
In 1981, Ramchandra Hande, Sheshappa's son, added Ambika Sweet's. For four decades, the restaurant delighted with South Indian vegetarian cuisine, earning the love of thousands. While the younger generation's career pursuits temporarily paused the business, the desire to revive their legacy remained. In 2023, Ramchandra Hande rekindled the journey in North America, aiming to share the cherished flavors and traditions of Ambika Bhavan and Ambika Sweet's with a new audience and a new brand Ambika Spices
